RAPT Industries Applications

Making glass optics involves precision grinding and a lot of polishing. A large amount of the polishing is simply to remove the sub-surface damage put in during the grinding step. We use RAP instead of grinding to generate the optic damage-free, reducing the need for subsequent etching or stock removal to remove sub-surface damage. Fused silica optics made by RAPT have been tested at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and have some of the highest laser damage threshold values of any optics measured.
