Welcome to RAPT Industries, Inc.

RAPT Industries, Inc. is a technology holding company specializing in the manufacturing/processing of precision surfaces using its proprietary Reactive Atom Plasma (RAPTM) technology. At its core, the technology involves the use of an atmospheric pressure plasma into which chemical precursors are injected. These precursors are broken down in the plasma to form desired chemical radicals that are then applied to a substrate placed downstream from the plasma. The key benefits of RAPTM technology are:

  • Atmospheric pressure operation
  • Localized processing (leading to serial manufacturing)
  • Ability to process (etch, shape, clean, dope) various materials using appropriate precursors
  • Non-contact, damage-free processing of substrates
  • Faster (orders of magnitude) process rates

The above advantages lead to improvements in performance and yield, reductions in cost and lead-time for customers. The adoption of RAPTM technology has also in some cases led to innovative designs that were once deemed non manufacturable. Tools embracing RAPTM technology have been demonstrated to have some of the lowest cost of ownership in industry.

RAPT Industries, Inc. started out as a pioneer in the manufacturing of damage-free precision surfaces using  RAPTM  technology. The RAPTM process was developed at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory as a means of rapidly shaping and smoothing glass surfaces using an atmospheric pressure plasma without imparting any sub-surface damage. The process has since then been commercialized for making such glass optics with significant R&D funding from NASA, the US DoD, and NIST. Two product platforms have been developed and are in use at customer sites shaping optical surfaces for next generation astronomy programs.

RAPT Industries, Inc. have since developed VirtuRAPTM technology that allows the user to define virtually complex tool footprints, localize processing even further and greatly increase processing rates. Extensions of the RAPTM and VirtuRAPTM technology have been developed to shape, pattern, texture, clean and dope precision surfaces very rapidly for the optics, semiconductors, compound semiconductors and photo-voltaics markets.

RAPTTM Industries is continuously involved in enhancing its core technology and applying it to fields requiring rapid, damage-free processing of surfaces. RAPTTM commercializes its technology through a combination of capital equipment sales, OEM module sales and technology licensing.
